Letter from our Founder

I wish to introduce myself as the Founder of Saroj Products. Before you trust us, I would like to share our story.

Bihar, the ancient heart of India, is a land where tradition meets hard work. Natural ponds in north-eastern part of Bihar, filled with tranquil waters of Ganga has given this World the finest Phool Makhanas. In this region, farmers of Mallah Community and their forefathers have been growing Makhana for more than 200 years and it is their devotion and tireless effort which has given Makhana a product of global recognition. Born in this land, I was fortunate to be closely associated with this community as their dedication and hard work has taught me some important lessons of life.

For us, Makhana is a tradition!

We are taking the hard way, but the right way.

Makhana production passes through different stages of harvesting, sun drying, popping, cleaning and size grading and we started our journey by organizing the community of only traditional makhana growers of our village into 15 small groups, who are directly involved in these stages. By supporting them and their family in pre and post harvesting season, we ensure that no middlemen is involved in any of these stages. By leveraging technology in reaching out to buyers directly, we bring transparency and reach every household with pure, fresh and authentic Makhana. We know that this is the hard way, but when we start working for a cause everything becomes easy.

Getting true nutrition is need of the hour. It is only when I stepped out of my village for studies and work, I realized that the Makhana packets sold outside are adulterated, failing to bring out the authentic natural taste and true nutrition to the consumers. It was even more unsettling to find out that despite Bihar being the major contributor of Makhana production in the world, its traditional Makhana farmers still struggle to receive fair price for their produce. Hence, from here we started Saroj Products, committing ourselves to bring value to these farmers as well as our consumers.

The unsettling revelation

We are determined to put every possible effort in reaching our consumers with the finest of Makhanas and our brand "khach khach" represents a promise of this commitment. Every packet of khach khach is filled with these authentic Makhana pieces at pocket friendly prices and meanwhile ensuring fair and genuine income to our farmers.
By the way, the name khach khach, was suggested by Vipin bhaiya (a Makhana seed collector). "khach khach" is a crunchy sound which can be heard while eating a bowl of roasted Makhana.
